July 2010: Engineering Processes, Mentoring, and Semantics

Mike McGonagle, Vice President of Engineering at Kronos Incorporated and one of the founding members of the Boston Technology Leadership Council, led an engaging, wide-ranging discussion about "Engineering Process Challenges" at the group's July 21st meeting.

In addition, BTLC member Chuck Rehberg, Chief Scientist at Semantic Insights and CTO of Trigent Software, updated the group on the latest semantic reader technologies.

On an administrative note, the BTLC is investigating ways to support technology mentoring, including participation in initiatives like the MassChallenge and others. Stay tuned…

June 2010: The Road to Scale

 The June 16th meeting of the Boston Technology Leadership Council featured a presentation by council President, James M. Butler, Ph.D., in which he discussed approaches to scaling a mobile advertising firm's technical infrastructure from startup mode to a highly scalable, high-throughput architecture capable of sustaining service under heavy load.

Dr. Butler is the Chief Technology Officer of Nexage, Inc.

May 2010: Strategic Technology Sourcing

 

The May 2010 Boston Technology Leadership Council meeting featured a presentation by Dr. Lars Kielhorn, Director of IT Special Projects at Bayer Healthcare's project management office. Dr. Kielhorn discussed the role of Bayer's India Delivery Center (IDC) in meeting Bayer's strategic sourcing objectives.

The Mumbai-based IDC is part of Bayer Business Services, a Bayer subsidiary, and the IDC focuses on providing IT services to Bayer's global businesses.

As many members of the Boston Technology Leadership Council have extensive experience with global technology sourcing, the group had a lively discussion regarding the challenges and benefits of a range of sourcing models.

April 2010: BTLC Roundtable

The group had a roundtable discussion about a range of topics:

• Bringing new hires "into the mold" of your business and culture.
• Product life cycles in SaaS environments.
• Management of offshore teams.

Next month, Dr. Lars Kielhorn, Director of Bayer Healthcare's IT Project Management Office, will attend our meeting as a guest speaker. Dr. Kielhorn will discuss strategic technology sourcing on a global scale.

March 2010: New Business Boot Camp

At today's Boston Technology Leadership Council meeting, the group worked with an entrepreneur to review his idea for a new business in the technology services space. TLC Boston Looks at the Chinese Domestic Market

In addition to welcoming two new members to the group this morning, the Boston Technology Leadership Council was treated to an excellent presentation by guest speaker, Tim Penasack, on the topic of "Doing Business in China: Practical Lessons in IT & Manufacturing." Tim shared his views on engaging with the Chinese domestic market from a technologist's perspective.
